Compared with other areas in New Zealand, South Canterbury was "lagging behind” in the appointments of Justies of the Peace, the registrar (Mr L. V. Farthing) told the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Justices’ Association. He said there were only 45 in Timaru, and 66 in the country districts. Of the total membership (111), 40 were 70 years of age or more, said Mr Farthing.—(F.0.0.R.)
