Provision Of Time-tables
The local chairman of the New Zealand European Shipnmg Association (Mr C. J. Ward) said that each member line posted timetables to all their importers each fortnight. Up-to-date information on ships' movements was available in each of the members’ offices every day for those who were interested to inquire. This information was also available to the newspapers. Mr Ward was commenting on a statement by a vicepresident of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association, ’/ i ® a t a meeting or the association’s council on Monday evening. .. r .® said at the meeting that it was a waste of time looking at the shipping list in the newspapers. “They go anything up to three weeks out of date,” he said. The assistant district traffic manager of railways in Christchurch (Mr B. D. Elder) denied an allegation that transit tones for goods sent from Christchurch to Auckland were as much as 28 days. He was commenting on criticism by Mr J. K. Dobson at the council meeting.
