S.A. Board Not Giving Up
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 26. The South African Rugby Board has not given up its battle to persuade the Government to allow Maoris to be included in the New Zealand team.
The board hoped to arrange a meeting between the South African Premier (Dr. Verwoerd) and Mr T. H. Pearce, the president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, who was due to arrive in South Africa tomorrow, the newspaper. “Die Transvaler,” said in a front-page report. Mr Pearce is going to South Africa to attend the sports-man-of-the-year ceremony in Johannesburg on December 2. ‘UNOFFICIAL VISIT’ (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. The president of the New Zealand Rugby Union (Mr T. H. Pearce) was going to South Africa in “a completely unofficial capacity,” said the chairman of the union (Mr T. C. Morrison). “Mr Pearce is president of the New Zealand Rugby Union and it would be natural that he would be meeting Rugby administrators in South Africa. “Should a meeting between Mr Pearce and Dr. Verwoerd be desired by the South African Board, and good come from it, he would have the support of all in New Zealand,” said Mr Morrison.
