MISUSING FUNDS
Vietnamese Charged (N.Z P A.-Reuter —Copyright) SAIGON, November 26 South Vietnamese officials have recalled a provincial chief from his post after charges of corruption and misuse of United States funds amounting to some 600,000 dollars.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s office said Lieuten-ant-Colonel Pham Dinh Chi, chief of the Binh Tuy province north-east of Saigon, had been recalled to other duties at the Defence Ministry.
Informed sources said the move was after objections by the United States Aid Mission which withdrew its two representatives from the province and suspended further aid after calling for a Government probe into the allegations.
Hurricane Damage.—Hurricane Betsy caused an estimated 1400 million dollars devastation in Florida and Lauisiana last September, a United States Weather Bureau official said in Miami. —(Miami, Nov. 26.)
