Incitement To Violence ?
Sir, —I have been informed that the following notice has been displayed in Christchurch: “Don’t go to Vietnam to look for Communists. They arc right here in your home town! A public meeting has been organised by pacifists, Communists and appeasers who are anxious to help the Chinese conquest of Asia. It takes place this Friday, November 26, beside the Avon, in front of the Y.M.C.A. Time, 7.30 p.m. If you don’t attend you will be helping to cut your own throat and stab our gunners in the back. Roll up—no admission charges. This could be fun.” Here we have an open attempt at inciting violence. The people who put out this Nazi-like document are obviously not amenable to reasoning. Unwillingness to reason breeds wars. There are too many such people around in the world already. God defend New Zealand from them.—Yours, etc., CIVIL LIBERTIES. November 26, 1965.
