Enthusiastic Athlete

REMOTENESS from athletics competition and help for training has not deadened the enthusiasm of M. G. Stewart (Waimate). The Canterbury senior javelin throw chamion and the national junior record holder, Stewart is working at Aviemore and last Saturday made a 380 mile round trip to compete in the inter-dub athletics meeting at Christchurch. Four weeks earlier, Stewart travelled to Christ-

church for competition also and on that occasion achieved his best distance of 217 ft tin with the senior javelin. Although handicapped by a greasy ground last week he threw 205 ft Ojin, a fine effort for the conditions. One advantage for Stewart in being at Aviemore is that he finds conditions excellent for training, with the weather fine and dry and the turf firm. Now 22, Stewart will be getting married today.
