TROTTING Rannach Lad Picked To Win At Orari

A bold run by Rannach Lad at yesterday’s trials held at Addington Raceway entitles him to solid support in the Stewards’ Handicap at Orari tomorrow.

Rannach Lad will start from 24 yards in this race, which is the main event for trotters at the Geraldine Trotting Club’s annual meeting.

Rannach Lad yesterday ran on well for third behind Mystique and Milford Nurse in the first heat of the 2min 20sec class trot.

He started from 60 yards and trotted solidly all the way, recording about 3min 35 3-ssec for the 13 furlongs. If he reproduces that effort, he should just about win tomorrow.

Melissa, one of the most consistent trotters in her class, was runner-up to Tannachbrae at the Waikouaiti meetihg earlier in the month. She deserves a win and should run Rannach Lad to a close decision.

Milford Nurse lost ground early at yesterday’s trials and showed speed to be second until she broke at the half-furlong yesterday. She is capable of surprising if she trots reasonably solidly. Johnny Gee showed that he will have prospects in this race when he won the other heat of the 2min 20sec class trot.

He made up his handicap gradually and won decisively by a length in 3min 40 4-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 6sec, and the final quarter in 33 2-ssec. He could upset calculations. Polydorus, Tannachbrae and Tryax Town appeal most of the others. The double will be run on the Geraldine Cup and the President’s Handicap, Pops Donation and Shadydale forming a likely combination. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be hard and fast.
