Satinette Favoured For Invercargill Sprint

“Th* Press’’ Special Service INVERCARGILL. Satinette will be expected to improve on her first-day placing in the Commonwealth Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double on the second day of the Southland Racing Club s spring meeting today.

She may get most opposition from Manners, a winner over a mile and a quarter on Saturday, which is being switched back to sprint racing. The first leg is the Medallist Handicap for which Town Crier will be the favourite.

Satinette’s second to Longwood Light on Saturday was a betler-than-average placing as she drifted out of her ground in the early running and was conceding the leaders a good start from the half-mile. She will be much better suited over a furlong further. She has been raised 31b to 8-0, and now meets Longwood Light on 61b better terms.

Longwood Light will again have to be considered. She received the run of the race on Saturday and was able to make the most of it over the concluding stages. A 31b allowance will again be claimed for her, bringing her down to 7-11. Gladaub’s run for fifth in a blanket finish the first day was in keeping with his best form He has been dropped 21b, and if there is any deterioration in track conditions he would firm in favour.

Manners is an interesting newcomer. His latest two successes have been over a middle distance, but he can be counted on to run a particularly good seven furlongs. Manners was a sprinter of no mean standing last season. At Nelson in May he ran seven furlongs under 7-13 in Imin 24 3-ssec.

After drifting out of his ground in the Taramea Handicap, The Wanderer did well to finish fourth, being closer at the post than any other stage, but he looks safely held by Longwood Light and also Fox Chat.

After winning at Wairio. Fox Chat was a good third on Saturday. She was three wide for

a good part of the journey and staved on much better than the other pacemakers. Lovely Day and Cadmean. Middy has done most of his recent racing over further ground, but he won over this distance in Intermediate class at the Dunedin spring meeting Highland Fair has not shown up in his two latest starts, but both were in strong company at Trentham in October and at Riccarion last month. The weather has been fine and the track will be firm. Selections: — 1 p.m. Pukemaorl Hurdles: Flisk, Segundo, Ravelson. 1.35 p.m. Lernevllle Stakes No. 1: Happy Days.
