No Action On Painting

(N.Z. Press Association} WELLINGTON, Nov. 23. The Attorney-General (Mr Hanan) said today he had advised the Auckland police not to take action over the painting “As Adam and Eve’’ by Michael Illingworth. Photographs taken by police of works by Mr Illingworth were seen last Friday by Mr Hanan, who then referred them to the Solicitor-General (Mr H. R. L. Wild) for his views. Mr Hanan was asked to decide whether there should be police action after a complaint was made that the painting was obscene.
