A.A. GIVES SUPPORT
Intersection Plan
Automobile Association (Canterbury) support for suggested improvements to the Fendalton road-Deans avenue-Harper avenue intersection was recommended to the association’s council in a report from the association’s roads, patrols and services committee.
The report recommended the suggestion be supported “ . . . until a more adequate solution to the problem can be found.” It had been recalled at the committee meeting that the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee had discussed the intersection on several occasions but no improvements had resulted, and it appeared the controlling authorities were not prepared to spend much money at present, and were obviously awaiting a decision on the future of the Master Transportation Plan. The chairman (Mr J. R. Maling) said he thought interim improvements could be effected by the painting of centre lines, the marking out of lanes and directional arrows, and a prohibition on stopping within the area of the intersection.
Mr T. D. Craig suggested that if a little more seal were added to the edge of the roadway before the corner, sufficient width would be available for the marking of lanes.
