ORBITER AGAIN TOO GOOD

Garcon d’or Second In

Ollivier Handicap

Orbiter followed his win in the Allan Matson Stakes on Wednesday evening with an equally decisive win in the Ollivier Handicap at Addington Raceway on Saturday evening. Once again he received a splendid run close to the lead, set out after the pacemakers with two furlongs left, took control just outside the furlong and won most convincingly.

Garcon d’Or fought on to finish a clear second, with Jacobite, Jay Ar and Lordship close together next. However, few excuses could be advanced for the horses beaten by Orbiter.

Orbiter’s win was again well received. He was a firm favourite, paying £3 17s for a win and £1 15s for a place. I le has now won 13 races for his Papanui owner-trainer, W.L. Bagrie, and with 23 placings has £13,335 in stakes.

Lordship hesitated at the start, and Avante. Lochgair, Cairnbrae, Garcon d’Or, Junior Royal and Van Rebeck also lost ground.

Jacobite and Anarca Direct began best, with Anarca Direct drawing clear after about half a furlong. Peerswick sprinted up on the outside of her at the mile post and worked to the front with six furlongs and a half left. Garry Dillon moved up on the outside of Anarca Direct at the six furlongs, with Jacobite, Orbiter. Idaho and Garcon d‘Or handy and Lordship one of the tail-enders. Peerswick was out by almost three lengths at the half-mile. Lordship began to improve near the three furlongs. where some of the others had begun to feel the strain.

Orbiter started to improve from the two furlongs and was two lengths behind Peerswick racing to the straight. Anarca Direct, Garry Dillon, Jacobite, Garcon d’Or and Lordship were also prominent.

Orbiter put the issue beyond doubt in a few strides after straightening and won by two lengths from Garcon d’Or, which ran on strongly over the last furlong. Jacobite finished gamely along the rails and held third two lengths behind Garcon d’Or and a head in front of Jay Ar. Lordship was a short length back fifth, clear of Peerswick, Idaho and Robin

Dundee, which was never in a challenging position. Back To Form

Asia Minor returned to his best form with a good win in the Greyhound Handicap. He was a rather unlucky runner in his previous starts at the meeting and his win was overdue for his Leeston ownertrainer, W. J. Doyle, who had to withdraw When from her races on the last two nights because of soreness. Asia Minor was seen in the unusual role of pacemaker, being trailed to the straight by Acquit. At this stage White World and Ali Bey were outside the pacemaker and Acqit was having difficulty getting clear. Fourina and Queen’s Cord were close up, ahead of Harbour Light, Flaming Way and Flying Maiden. Asia Minor ran on for a decisive win by a length and a half over Acquit, which got up to shade Ali Bey by a head. Ali Bey’s effort was full of merit as he was forced three wide over the last seven furlongs. He held a short lead for a time near the three furlongs Le Chant made up ground for fourth one length and a half further back, shading Ipiana, Queen's Cord. Flying Maiden, Fourina and Poupette, which were almost in line.

The favourite, Mighty Chief, finished twelfth after breaking at the end of a fur-

long and losing 100 yards. Flying Maiden, Ipiana and Castleton’s Gift broke early. Mighty Hanover broke near the two furlongs.
