More Taranaki Schools Closed
(New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, Nov. 21. The closing of schools at Stratford because of the dysentery epidemic in the area has now been extended to four eastern Taranaki schools until November 29.
Dr. A. A. Cox, Medical Officer of Health for Taranaki, said tonight the Tahora, Marco, Huiakama and Makahu schools had been closed because the epidemic was reaching into the area. The Whangamomona school, at the centre of the eastern Taranaki area, will remain open. The Stratford Technical High School, which is also to remain open, will have all family contacts with dysentery cases excluded until clearances are produced from a doctor.
On Saturday, the Stratford Agricultural and Pastoral Association was told it would not be permitted to let any child 11 years old or under
to enter the annual show at Stratford. Dr. Cox said the ban applied not only to Stratford children but also to children from any part of the province.
