Television Sets Stolen

Three television sets and a number of transistor radios were stolen at the weekend.

A thief who hurled a battery through the window of Mr L. Scott’s radio and television shop in Colombo street on Friday night stole a television set valued at £B9 10s. The battery hit a televisionradiogram and damaged two other television sets. Damage is estimated at £2lO. Church Corner Electrical in Upper Riccarton was broken into some time between 1.30 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. yesterday and five transistor radios, valued at £9O, were stolen. A box of steel clips, valued

at £2O, were stolen from the premises of R.M.S. (N.Z.), Ltd., 91 Montreal street, between 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday. A house in Chester street was entered between midnight and 10 a.m. on Saturday. A television set, lampshade, ornaments, a set of Christmas lights and a number of other articles were stolen. The total value of the goods taken is not known.

Property worth £5O was stolen from a house in Barrington street. It included £5 worth of 2s 6d pieces. 15s worth of 3d pieces, a small collection of New Caledonian and Fijian coins, a Japanese binocular which incorporated a transistor radio, and a pocket-size transistor radio. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturday a house in Bower avenue was entered and goods worth more than £lOO were stolen. They included a portable television set, valued at £B5 and jewellery and rugs. A quantity of chocolates, sweets and cigarettes were stolen from the Cowles Stadium some time between Friday and yesterday. Tools and nails worth £2O were stolen from the building site of the J. and L. Construction Company at the corner of Barbadoes street and Bealey avenue between 3 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. yesterday.

A transistor radio, wallet and torch valued at £54 were stolen from a parked car in Sparks road between 9.30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 a.m. yesterday. A wheel assembly, valued at

£ll, was stolen from a parked car in Latimer square on Saturday evening.
