Mushrooms Up
Mushrooms have been served on many a Blenheim table in the last 10 days. The recent rains have brought out good flushes of horse mushrooms in paddocks and on the verge of roads. Noon Weather Noon weather yesterday was: Auckland 59, fine southwest 15; Wellington 49, cloudy south 20; Christchurch 51, cloudy south-west 5; Dunedin 50 partly cloudy east 20. -(P.A.) Flight Covers First-flight covers will be carried on the inaugural Qantas Boeing service from Auckland to Sydney on Wednesday, November 24, when Auckland’s new international airport at Mangere opens. Application forms are available from the Qantas offices at Auckland, Wellingt-m and Christchurch and all Air New Zealand offices. Beach For Dogs Dogs on Waiheke Island may roam the beaches to their hearts’ content and the Waiheke Road Board is powerless to stop them in spite of pleas from visitors and residents. A recent visitor complained of the dogs fouling the beach and vowed he would not return until they were banned. The chairman of the Waiheke Road Board, Mr S. Newton, said the board’s jurisdiction ended at the high-water mark. From there on down to the sea the beach is administered by the Marine Department. Late Improvement Unseasonable week-end weather improved yesterday afternoon, when the sky cleared, the morning’s southwesterly changed .to a moderate easterly, and there was some bright sunshine. Temperatures recorded at Harewood rose from 46 degrees at 8 a.m. to 52 degrees at midday, reaching the maximum for the day—--57 degrees—at 3 p.m. At 4.15 p.m. the Government Life building in Cathedral square registered 57 degrees. There was a brief shower at about 8 a.m. Though 11 hours of sunshine were recorded on Saturday, the sky remained partly cloudy and a fresh south-westerly blew throughout. Rain and hail fell in some localities in the morning. Temperatures were cool, the maximum at Harewood being 53 degrees at 2 p.m.
