‘Christian Action Lacking’
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Nov. 21.
The Christian faith was disintegrating because there was not enough Christian action in it, said Sir Walter Nash, at the Methodist Central Mission tonight. - “There are 600 million Christians in the world saying and singing they believe in love, but not many act as though they do,” said Sir Walter Nash. “Universal love is the
only possible saviour of the world today.” The half of the people in the world who were starving could be relieved in one generation, said Sir Walter Nash. “The food is there—all we need to do is devote some time, energy and thought to conceiving how to get it to the people who need it.”
New Zealand was almost at the bottom of the list of countries that were helping others with
lower living standards, he said.
France gave 1.28 per cent of her national income to less fortunate countries. New Zealand gave 0.19 per cent Yet New Zealand had one of the highest standards of living in the world. The political difficulty was great. “What political party would be elected in New Zealand if they said it was going to increase taxes to help underdeveloped countries?”
