ILLINGWORTH PAINTING
Decision Next Week (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The Attorney-General (Mr Hanan) said today he expected a decision would be announced early next week regarding the painting “As Adam and Eve.” by Michael Illingworth. Photographs taken by the Auckland police of works by the artist were seen today by Mr Hanan, who then referred them to the SolicitorGeneral (Mr H. R. C. Wild) for his views.
Two photographs were of sculpture, one of the painting and one of a portion of the exhibit at the Barry Lett Galleries, Auckland. The matter was referred to Mr Hanan to decide whether there should be a prosecution after a complaint was made to the police that the painting was obscene.
