Minor Fires
The Christchurch Fire Brigade was called to seven fires on Tuesday, five of them rubbish, grass and hedge fires, and two which did only slight damage to property.
A fire in a small storeroom on property occupied by Mr Owen Lewis at 1037 Colombo street, caused slight damage at 1.14 p.m. Headquarters and St. Albans firemen attended.
Fire in bedding on a table in the home of Mr Robert Watson, 73 Main South road, at 7.37 p.m. caused slight damage. Sockburn and Headquarters firemen answered the alarm.
Grass fires on the property of Mr Patrick Jaffkin, 2 Marine parade, and in the City Council reserve off Banks avenue caused no damage. Rubbish fires in a vacant section at 41 Buffin street and on the property of Mr Edward Black, 22 Richmond Hill road, caused no damage. A small fire in a hedge on the property of Mr Sidney Levett, 283 Breezes road, was attended to by New Brighton firemen.
