American Visitors
Three prominent American racing owners and their wives will be guests of the Canterbury Jockey Club at Riccarton today. They were guests of the club at a cocktail party in Christchurch last night.
The visitors are Dr. and Mrs Irby Ballenger, of Albuquerque. New Mexico, Mr and Mrs Arthur Straub. Villa Park, California, and Mr and Mrs John Elmore, San Clemente, California.
They have come to New Zealand on a tour organised by Mr Hugo Larsen, of Los Angeles.
Members of the party were at Flemington to see the New Zealand-bred and owned Light Fingers win the Melbourne Cup last Tuesday. They also saw the Oaks programme at Flemington on Thursday, and arrived in Christchurch early yesterday morning.
Tomorrow the party will travel on to the North Island for visits to leading studs. They will also be guests at functions arranged by the Wellington and Auckland Racing Clubs
