Average Food Price Drops

(N.Z. Press Aeeoclatlon) WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. October’s average food price dropped 1.4 per cent, on the previous month’s, says a statement from the Government Statistician. The food group Index number of the consumers’ price index was 1236 compared with 1253 in September. (Averprice prices in 1955 —1000.) The biggest decreases were in eggs (22 points) and sugar (one point). These falls were offset by increases in beef meat items (three points), seasonal fruits and vegetables (one point and a half), and non-seasonal fruits and vegetables (one point and a half).
