(N.Z. Press Association*

AUCKLAND, Nov. 5. A home-made bomb or firework, which police said would have caused major injury to passers-by, was exploded in the entrance of a block of flats in Sarawia street, Newmarket, at 8.10 last night. Much of the force of the blast was directed up a flight of stairs, springing a door from its lock and causing a crack in the ceiling. Experts are examining the materials used in the bomb, which was some form of explosive packed in a rubber balloon and newspaper.
