COMPUTER PROGRAMMERS APPLICATIONS are Invited for training as computer programmers in the Public Service. Experience in this field is not required but preference will be given to applicants of good personality who are qualified accountants or graduates. Training will be provided on a threemonth course followed by practical experience. Commencing salary for a graduate will be between £lOO5 and £ll5O. After three years, a good programmer should be earning £l5OO. Top programmers can rise to £2,345. There are opportunities for promotion in computer work beyond this. It is also recognised that success in the programming field usually provides a useful background for further advancement to managerial positions. The prospects are good. The Public Service is already the largest user of computer equipment in New Zealand and plans to extend this to many new areas of work using the most modern equipment.
