U.K. WOOLMARK CAMPAIGN

“When it matters, people wear pure new w001.... ”

This is the theme of the Woolmark commercial and of the advertising campaign for the northern autumn this year and next spring and a phrase which will be used in national daily and Sunday newspapers, women’s magazines and trade papers, with garments from leading Woolmark houses.

Side by side with this will be “All the world wears British wool cloth” and “All the world wears Scottish wool cloth,” sponsored by the British Wool Textile Promotion Council and the Scottish Woollen Publicity Council to promote all that is best in British wool cloth and knitwear and Scottish wool cloth. Between the beginning of September and the end of December, over 100 different advertisements—most of them full pages in colour — will appear in daily, weekly and monthly publications-Eighty-one of the country’s leading garment manufacturers will feature men’s women’s and children’s wear and 20 cloth manufacturers will be named in a four-page colour supplement for woollen piecegoods. A major campaign for pure new wool carpets is also planned in women’s magazines in

support of the very successful colour films which will continue to be shown in cinemas throughout the autumn. Pure wool blankets will also be featured in women’s magazines, in colour. Speaking at a press preview of a small exhibition of 1965 wool advertising and promotion materials, Mr Dennis Clive, the director of the United Kingdom branch of the I.W.S. said “while the British wool cloth and knitwear swing tickets draws the consumers’ attention to the skill and genius of the United Kingdom cloth and clothing trades, the Woolmark means pure new wool controlled to internationally agreed standards. Together they are a powerful combination.”

Mr Clive said that the campaign provided very substantial support for the growing number of manufacturers and retailers who use the wool swing tags and labels.
