RICCARTON CONCERN

Police Station Closure Plan In response to complaints from Riccarton residents at the proposal to close the Upper Riccarton Police Station, Mr M. A. Connelly M.P., has sent a telegram to the Minister of Police (Mr Allen). Mr Connelly said that until his return from the North Island last evening, he had no concrete information about the proposed closing, but that on the request of residents he had sent a telegram to the Minister asking for it to be reconsidered.

While the special value of regionally-sited speciallystaffed police stations was recognised strategically-sited local stations must not be overlooked, he said. The Riccarton station was located at a main transport and shopping junction, and could provide convenient service to the community, said Mr Connelly.
