Welcomed By Cr. Olds

Representatives at the annual conference of the Methodist Church were welcomed to Christchurch by Cr. W. E. Olds yesterday. Cr. Olds extended the personal good wishes of the Mayor (Mr Manning) who, with the Deputy-Mayor (Mr Smith) is attending the conference of the South Island Local Bodies’ Association at Hokitika. He outlined the early history of the church in Canterbury, and paid tribute to its work in Christchurch and throughout New Zealand

“Our wish is for the continued success of your efforts, and the ultimate achievement of your lofty aims,” Cr. Olds said.

Among the ministers at the conference are a brother of Cr. Olds, the Rev. C. H. Olds, of Hamilton, and three of his nephews, the Revs. J. S. and O. McL. Olds, of Auckland, and N. W. Olds, of Timaru Another brother, the Rev. E. T. Olds, also of Auckland, was unable to come because of ill health. Cr. and Mrs Olds are member- of the Durham Street Church, in which the conference is being held. The conference president (the Rev. A. R. Witheford) thanked Cr. and Mrs Olds for their visit
