Easy Wins In Table Tennis

Selwyn and Linwood had easy wins in the first round of the summer senior table tennis competition last evening.

H. P. Holt and Mrs T. May showed fhe advantage of their experience to defeat all three members of National Bank, which is playing its first season in the senior grade. For National Bank, I. Urquhart scored a surprise win over M. R. Spinks. G. Makinson and J. Kyle, for Linwood, won all their singles matches, but L. Vallance, after beating T. Abernethy and J. Harliwich, failed to penetrate the consistent defence of B. Haseltine. F. Jarman, playing his last game in the Canterbury province, gave one of his best displays to win all his singles matches, including a victory over the national junior champion, R. Mitchell. In support, B. T. Edwards won two matches while R. McLachlan, playing his first game in the senior grade, beat B. Myer. In a close contest University. after trailing, 0-3, overtook Wallabies to win, 16-14, in games after matches had been levelled at 6-all. M. Tonkin (Wallabies) scored good wins over R. Keys and R.
