Bright Idea In Form For Tauranga First Leg

“The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND. Bright Idea. Tatua, Kiwi Fox and up-on-coming horses like Boodle, Rohe Potae, Honestly, Ursinus and Bob Duff, promise excellent competition at the Bay of Plenty Racing Club's spring meeting today.

. The first leg of the T.A.B. double, the Tauranga City Handicap, will bring Bright Idea back to a middle distance, which he seems ready to run very solidly. Bright Idea has been tackling sprints since he returned to racing at Matamata on August 21 after a spell through the winter, and he has performed so well as to win twice, over six furlongs, at Rotorua. On each occasion he started slowly and came home very fast In his failure to make up into a successful handicap horse, Bright Idea was one of the disappointments of the autumn last season. In several attempts he failed to gain a place, but at five years old this season he is very likely more suitable for the longer distances. If Tatua is going to be good again this season he should now start to show form. Last Monday he ran well until a furlong out over 11 furlongs at Te Rapa. That was after he had shared the pace with Ravenwood. With 8-10, Tatua is required to give Bright Idea 151 b and he has 51b more than Clarendon, 101 b more than My Contact and 111 b more than Kiwi Fox. GOOD STAYER Kiwi Fox is a stayer which may manage the 10> furlongs and long run home better than most. Micheline often finishes well and Tawa Mahal is another chance. Honestly and Ursinus will meet in the second leg of the TAB. double, the Tauranga Intermediate Thousand, a sprint for horses which have not secured more than £l5OO in first money. Bardowie, Sunset Fair and Geyserland help to make the field one of unusual quality. Whether Honestly, over seven furlongs, w’ill be able to keep close enough to Ursinus in the first half-mile is the main question When they last met, over a mile at Ellerslie on October 16, Honestly caught Ursinus, which made the pace, in the last few strides. From her weight on that occasion Honestly is up 41b. Ursinus has the same handicap, 8-5. TRYING AGAIN Boodle, a four-year-old from Te Rapa, will be trying for his second win in succession. He contests the Merivale Hack Handicap. Rohe Potae i* in the Maungatapu Hack Handicap against Pell Mell and several other smart young horses, and Bob Duff is an acceptor for the Domain Hack Handicap. Boodle and Bob Duff, also a four-year-old. look full of promise. The weather has been fine and warm and the track should be in excellent order.
