It was established in May, 1965. by the University of Papua and New Guinea I Ordinance which provides for ■ the establishment of an autonomous university. It is governed initially by an Interim Council which includes local representative's and academic members i of Australian universities. The; council is anxious that work should proceed as soon as possible and wishes to have the advice of Foundation Professors in the early stages. It is hoped to start full degree work in March, 1967. with limited student numbers in a range of Arts subjects and in some Science subjects. Other subjects and degree courses will follow. Opportunities for research will be available. Salarv £A5450 p.a. An addi tional £AISO p.a. is paid to mar ried appointees. F.S.S.U. type superannuation is available. Accommodation will be provided at reasonable rental. Taxation rates in PNG are very substantially below those operating In Australia and In I the United Kingdom.
