SCENES IN A NEW SCOTTISH TOWN.—Glenrothes, a planned town established in Fife in 1949, has been attracting new industries since the late 19505, and the population target—previously 32,000—has been raised to 55,000-70,000. Industries range from knitwear to electronics, and a thriving, hopeful community is being built on the remains of a disused mining centre. The photograph on the left shows a covered shopping arcade in the Glenrothes town centre, and the other picture shows a statue, “Ex Terra,” by Benno Schotz.
