CHINA IN U.N.
(N Z PA -Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, October 26. The longer China was kept out of the United Nations, the harder it might be to get her in, the British Foreign Secretary (Mr Michael Stewart) said tonight. Speaking at a meeting held in connexion with International Co-operation Year, Mr Stewart reiterated Britain’s view that China should be admitted. But he added: “I am bound to say this particular year, in view of the recent behaviour of the Government of Peking, it is not the happiest year to advocate that proposal.”
He considered, however, that if the United Nations was to do its job at all, it had got to be as universal as it could be made.
