FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anti-cyclone lies to the north of New Zealand. A disturbed westerly stream covers the south Tasman and south and south-east of New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Moderate, variable winds, mainly northerlies. Mainly cloudy and mild. Rain in the alps and some scattered light falls elsewhere later. Marlborough. North-westerlies becoming fresh or strong in exposed areas during the day. Scattered rain at first, but becoming partly cloudy. Mild. Nelson.—Moderate variable winds, mainly cloudy and mild. Some early rain. West Coast.—Moderate variable winds. Mainly cloudy. Mild weather, with rain during the day. Outlook: Mainly cloudy.
