Choice Of Aircraft
Sir, —From unconfirmed reoorts. it appears that N-A.C. is about to order American Boeing jet aircraft. If this is confirmed, it will be another undeserved smack at British industry, and a barrier to further favoured treatment from Britain for the entry of our primary products. For the last seven or eight years. Australia and New Zealand have always chosen American aircraft before British, and not often because of technical superiority. I suspect that our two countries are leaning too eagerly over to olease the American giant. Why won’t N.A.C. choose the British craft? The airline has always claimed that the aircraft it buys would he well proven in overseas airlines It is interesting to note that the British contender is now
in successful airline use—in the United States as elsewhere whereas N.A.C.’s probable choice has not as yet left the ground for a single flight!—Yours, etc., J. H. MARKS. October 25, 1965.
