Lordship Not Going North

Lordship will not be taken north for the F. J. Smith Memorial Free-for-all at Alexandra Park Raceway on Saturday . Instead he will go south and contest the Hannon Memorial Handicap on the second day of the Oamaru Trotting Club’s spring meeting on Monday.

The decision to remain at home and race at Oamaru was made after Lordship had drawn No. 16 at the barrier. His absence will rob the Auckland race of considerable interest.

Southern Song is another Canterbury-trained pacer not going to Auckland. Four scratchings are necessary before he can get a start in the October Handicap. He will start in the George Bruce Memorial Handicap at Oamaru.

Southern Song’s stablemate, Hazard, is going north to contest the restricted age events at the meeting. It is probable that her trainer, C. McDonald, will go north and drive her.

The outstanding four-year-

old, Marshella, is most unlikely to go north, according to her owner-trainer, N. J. Foulkes. It has been intended to fly her north on Friday along with other Canterbury horses engaged at the meeting, but lack of support has caused the cancellation of the flight. Marshella will probably be kept for races at the New Zealand Cup meeting next month.

No decision has yet been made about Central Range going north. He, too, was to have travelled on Friday’s aeroplane. However, he might go north by ship and road. As well as Hazard, Arahina, Ali Bey, Jay Ar and Spring Greetings were booked to go north last night. D. Mangos will drive all but Hazard. Arahina, which has raced well in Auckland in the past, requires one scratching to

get a start in the October Handicap. Ali Bey trotted his best race for some time when he finished eighth in the Cambridge Handicap won by Ipiana on Monday night. He was less than five lengths from the winner. He could show to advantage at Auckland. Jay Ar raced last at Forbury Park on October 9. He finished eighth after being well back until late in the race. He has drawn badly at Auckland, and will need luck to secure a favourable run.

Spring Greetings broke at the straight entrance when fairly handy in the Oxford Handicap at Addington on Monday. At her previous start she trotted a splendid race for fifth at Ashburton. If she races up to her best form, she should pay expenses on the trip.

New Mark.— Terri Lee has been rehandicapped to 36 yards in the George Bruce Memorial at Oamaru on Saturday after his win at Addington on Monday night.— (P.A.)
