BOUT FOR SANTOS

Held World Title

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. An American lightweight Joe Brown, may have a bout with Manoel Santos, of Auckland, a Wellington boxing official

said yesterday. Brown, a Negro, was the world light-weight champion from 1956 to 1962. He made more, successful title defences than any other champion of this weight.

The chairman of the Wellington Boxing Association, Mr B. F. O’Brien, said that Brown had been offered to the association.

“But, in view of Brown’s age, we would have'to know more about his current condition before we would contemplate using him here,” said Mr O’Brien. Brown is 39.
