City Asked To Support Kiwis

The chairman of the Bradford Northern club, a former New Zealander, Mr J. Phillips, has made an appeal to the Bradford public to attend the second Rugby League test between Britain and New Zealand at Odsal Stadium next Saturday.

He said that he wanted 25,000 people to attend.

He made his appeal to help ensure that Odsal remains as a test venue and again becomes established as a ground for international matches and important games. The Bradford Northern club went defunct 14 months ago, but under the guidance of Mr Phillips has made a great revival. Attendances Only 200 The team is in the top five in the English championship and crowds have averaged about 8000 this year. Attendances had dwindled to as low as 200 two seasons ago when Bradford was forced to go out of existence. Mr Phillips said that he ex-

pected at least 20,000 at the test, but hoped that no less than 25,000 would attend. “Every person who comes through the turnstiles will be helping Bradford Northern, as well as the game as a whole,’’ he said. The tourists had their problems at training yesterday. The test hooker, W. T. Schultz, did not train. He has been having trouble with his nose, which received a bad knock during the Rochdale game. It bleeds every time he exerts himself.
