WAIUKU LAND
Big Rise In Value
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 19. Land values in Waiuku, four miles from the steel mill site at Glenbrook, have nearly trebled in the last six months.
The Waiuku Town Clerk, Mr J. P. Conlan, says six months ago the average price for a section was about £350, but now the average was about £9OO. Some cost up to £l3OO. The Mayor (Dr. R. S. Whiteside) said land values were a few years ahead of themselves.
“We are still in the stage of anticipation,” he said. “I don’t expect much progress for another two years.” The New Zealand Steel Company had made an application to the Waiuku Borough Council to change the 120 acres of rural land which it bought to residential.
The company plans to build about 400 houses for mill workers in Waiuku, Pukekohe, Tuakau, and Papakura. Preliminary survey W’ork has started on the upgrading of about 14 miles of highway.
