Shield Togetherness
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Auckland Rugby selector-coach, Mr R. Sorenson, intends adopting the same off-season build-up of team spirit this summer as was pursued by former coach, Mr F. Allen, when Auckland held the Ranfurly Shield from 1960 to 1963 and established a record of 26 successive shield defences. Mr Allen had advocated
off-seasoir activities and get-togethers. “We intend doing the same,” Mr Sorenson said yesterday. “There’ll be picnics, visits to beaches, possibly a game of cricket, maybe some golf, and perhaps a fishing trip or two.” Mr Sorenson said he had found, himself, this season, that such gettogethers were ideal for building up team spirit. They would be resumed early in the new year.
