309 Bales Of Clothing • As a result of this year's | clothing drive by C.0.R.5.0 lin Canterbury, 309 bales of I clothing have been collected I for distribution overseas. Between 500 and 600 volunteers have just spent three weeks packing a wide variety of articles at Addington Show Grounds They have packed 144,597 articles of clothing, 7641 pairs of shoes, 8426 rainproof coats and toys, and a bale of nylon stockings. Last year 323 bales were collected, but the area organiser (Mr B. H. Coley) said yesterday that be expected to reach this figure easily before the end of the year.

Each day women from many city organisations have been helping with the tremendous task of sorting and packing the clothing. Men’s organisations have provided additional assistance in the evenings, and on Saturday mornings pupils of Rangiruru, Villa Maria and Hillmorion High Schools have assisted. Good weather has helped. "I am delighted with the results of the drive,” said Mr Coley. “The quality of the clothing collected this year was excellent. I am very grateful to all those organisations who helped in the operation, and also to those people who contributed so generously.” The clothing will be distributed to many parts of the world including Korea. Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, and North Africa.
