Cabriere Likely In Waverly Cup Today

“Th* Preu” Special Servict WELLINGTON. Cabriere and Royal Admiral, both last start winners, are selected to win the T.A.B. double at the Waverley Racing Club’s meeting today.

Cabriere won at Hastings. He was well

back in the early running and still a good way from the leaders turning for home, but once his stride had lengthened he was far too good for the opposition.

The field Cabriere ’ /at on that occasion was of a stronger class than the one he meets today. Worthy Chat disappointed at Otaki after winning at Marton. At Marton he showed courage to come again and beat Le Plus narrowly. Near Time has not raced since July and then her form was not impressive, but she had a run at the Foxton matinee and ran soundly for third. She looked forward. Surf Boy finished fourth behind Cabriere at Hastings and if the going is firm there is every reason to believe that he will improve on that placing. Magician has failed to reach form since leaving the South Island, but he showed a glimpse of his best when he finished quite well over a mile at his last start.

Marie Mitchell has winning last-start sprint form but it is hard to see her staying a mile and a quarter. Of the others, Tardini and King George could do best. Tardini has run good races in top class fields and King George won over a middle distance at the Taranaki meeting in August. Royal Admiral has been improving with every race this season and there appears no reason why he should not carry on with this improvement. His last start provided a win over Dalvui and Ichtar at Waipukurau. Croydon’s Gold's form is similar to that of Royal Admiral. He, too, has been improving with racing and at his last start he also won. Alkira had her first race as a three-year-old in the Gold Trail Stakes at Hastings and she ran poorly. The race is expected to improve her, however, and a better showing can be expected today.

Alkira is bracketed with Understudy, which won at Marton but who failed at Stratford. Selections: — Lupton High-weight:
