RACING Guineas Candidates Shape Well In Sprints
Sir Limond and Pee Wee, Riccarton-trained candidates for the Wellington Guineas on Saturday, shaped well in gallops on their home track yesterday.
They both galloped 40ft out on the course proper. Sir Limond with Marlborough, and Pee Wee with Gunga Din.
Sir Limond (Mein) and Marlborough (Traecey) ran seven furlongs in Imin 32sec, and the last half-mile in 51 l-ssec. This was not bettered in the training.
A. J. Stokes will ride Sir Limond. The North Island lockey. R. A. Jenkins, has been engaged for Pee Wee. which ran seven furlongs with Gunga Din in Imin 33 4-ssec yesterday.
With R. Moir up, Gunga Din had the better of the weights and stayed on terms with his stablemate to the end. They ran the last halfmile in 53 3-ssec. A soft track at Trentham would give Pee Wee something better than an outside chance in the Wellington Guineas. Gunga Din is one of five from Riccarton engaged in the October Hack Handicap. START IN DOUBT One of the best solo gallops of yesterday’s training was Gold Shower’s Imin
33 3-ssec for seven furlongs with A. Telfer up. She is in the Arundel Intermediate Handicap field at Orari, but it is doubtful if she will run. This is a sevenfurlong race, and Gold Shower has done best over more ground. Llanstar (Taggart) drew away to finish seven furlongs well clear of Cumberland (F. Daly) and Marlow (Hadfield), but the stablemates were not hurried in the straight. Llanstar and Cumberland will meet in the Heretaunga Hack Handicap on Saturday. Natter (Telfer) and Stageland (Mein) stayed on terms to the end of six furlongs and recorded Imin 20 2-ssec. It was a good gallop. Natter has struck a solid patch of form and should take beating in the October Hack Handicap at Trentham. Hawkins (Stechmann) beat Gallantly (Swanson) handily over nine furlongs in 2min 3 l-ssec in a good trial for the high-weight at the Geraldine meeting. Duplex (Thistoll) started from the mile in his usual tearaway style and sped over half a mile down the back in 51 l-ssec. Other gallops:— COURSE PROPER Half-mile.—Count de Seine and Shoshone 53 l-ssec (last half of a mile), Corsica (Tracey) 53sec, Shastra 52 4-5 sec, Master Sheeny (Moir) neck Sleeky Fox (Mein), two lengths Lady Entwine (Wildermoth) 53sec: Enrapture (Low) neck, Talic (Mein) 51 2-ssec;; Coral Prince (Tucker) clear of Marleigh (Telfer) 52 4-ssec: Blue Chip (Hadfield). 54 l-ssec; Race Guide (neck) 52 1-5; Early Dawn (Hadfield) and Desert Terror (F.
