RANKING TENNIS
First Games Played
The first of the season’s ranking matches were held by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association at Wilding Park last evening. Matches were to have begun last Tuesday but the start was delayed because of rain. Some of the province’s leading men took part but there were few women. The leading junior, J. Mitchell, had a comfortable win over M. Agar, 6-0, 6-3. A list is not expected to be issued until matches are played on the grass which will not be used until next month. The convener of the selection panel (Mr J. Anderson) emphasised last evening that matches at present were of a practice nature.
