50-Mile In April In spite of suggestions by interested followers and some officials that the New Brighton 50 —New Zealand’s longest single stage foot race—should be held earlier in the season to attract more entries, the Canterbury Road Runners’ Association has chosen to continue holding the event at the end of the season. April 2 has been laid down in the official road running programme for the race. Last season it was held a day later on April 3. The detailed programme of road running in Canterbury for the 1965-66 season, which opens with a six-mile event or. Saturday, is:— October 16, six miles scratch; October 30, Summit 10 miles from the Sign of the Kiwi. November 17 Invitation 30 kilometres track and B and C grade 10-mile road race; November 27, West Coast marathon. December 4, 15-mtle graded scratch; December 15, Rangiora 20. January 15, Canterbury 10mile championships at Ashburton. February 5, Canterbury marathon; February 19, 15-mile post entry; February 26, 20-mile handicap (New Zealand marathon at Hamilton). March 19, Sanitone six mites at Lyttelton. April 2, New Brighton 50.
