General approval at the progress of negotiations with the Christchurch City Council on the proposed parking building over the Christchurch Transport Board’s land in Cathedral Square was expressed at a meeting of the board yesterday.

Fardell) were authorised to proceed with negotiations with the City Council to settle a few matters of detail. Reactions were favourable when the chairman called for comments. “It is gratifying that we are getting somewhere,” said Mr P. D. Dunbar. Mrs L. E. Macfarlane described the position as “quite satisfactory.” Mr H. E. Denton: 1 think you did a good job together. Computer Investigation An investigation into the use of computers for carrying out the board's wages analysis, stores issues, accounting, and traffic analysis is being made, pending the change to decimal currency in July, 19b7.
"If this work can be done by computer, it will make considerable savings over a period.” said a report before the board.
If it was not possible to “computerise” the work, said he report, certain accounting machines would have to be renewed, as present ones were too old to qualify for the Government’s conversion or compensating schemes. It was decided that the general manager place tentative orders for the replacement of accounting machines, while awaiting a fuller report on the computer investigation. Timetable Rotation
On the recommendation of the traffic committee, it was decided that suggested 24hour rotation for timetables be not proceeded with. With the pending introduction of decimal currency a new system in relation to clock times would be “most confusing,” the committee said.
