N.Z. TOLD RHODESIA
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. The Rhodesian Prime Minister, Mr lan Smith, knew what New Zealand intended to do if unilateral independence was declared, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) told a news conference tonight. Proof of this was contained in a three-page cable from Mr Smith which said he understood New Zealand's attitude. Mr Holyoake declined to give details of the cable. He said New Zealand had done some advance thinking on the question and had been the first to make representations to Mr Smith. He said he could only hope these would help in some way.
