FIRST FLIGHT COVERS

Inaugural Air Services A limited number of first flight covers will be carried on each of Air New Zealand’s DCB inaugural services later this year. The first inaugural flight— Christchurch to Sydney and return —will be on October 3. Other inaugural flights include Auckland-Sydney and return on November 24 and Auckland-Nandi and Auck-land-Pago Pago on November 28 with the return next day. The first inaugural flight on a new Air New Zealand route—from Auckland to Los Angeles via Nandi and Honolulu—will leave Auckland on December 14, returning the next day. Souvenir covers will also be carried on inaugural services to Hong Kong and Singapore on March 3 and April 6 respectively. Application forms for covers can he obtained from any Air New Zealand. Qantas or 8.0.A.C. office in New Zealand. The cover incorporates the airline’s colours—blue, turquoise and gold—and the outline of a DCB. The aircraft is shown against a deep blue background on the lefthand side of the envelope. Lettering, on a gold ground, names the sector on which the cover is being carried. Envelopes carried on inaugural flights in to New Zealand will be back-stamped with a special cachet by the post office. The cachet will include the outline of a DCS and the date. It is expected that a similar stamp will be used at terminal points outside New Zealand.

Although Air New Zealand expects to have worldwide sales of these souvenir covers, numbers on each flight are being strictly limited.
