BIGGER ENGINES FOR TWO MINXES

NEW 1725 c.c. Rootes engine giving major allround improvements in performance is the main feature of the latest Hillman Super Minx and Hillman Minx de luxe models announced by the Rootes Group. The new power unit, which has a five-bearing crankshaft, has been developed to give economical and flexible performance. The new Hillmans have a top speed of 85 miles an hour. They also have greater acceleration and pulling power in every gear while retaining over-all economy in fuel consumption. The Super Minx models are now available for the first time with Laycock-de-Nor-manville overdrive as an optional extra. Borg-Warner fully automatic transmission

continues, to be available as a further option. In the case of both the Super Minx and Minx de luxe, the body styling remains unchanged, but new colour and trim schemes are introduced, and “1725” plaques on the front wings identify the new models. The 1725 engine has been developed from the thoroughly proved 1592 c.c. design previously employed. In the case of the Super Minx, maximum power output is increased from 62 b.h.p. to 69.5 b.h.p. A higher axle ratio contributes to the improved performance. The Minx de luxe is increased in power output from 56 b.h.p. to 69.5 b.h.p. New Super Minx features, include refinements to the in-1 terior trim; rear drum brakes j (working in conjunction with discs at the front) which are now self adjusting for simplified maintenance; re-designed gear shift for still easier operation of the all-synchro-mesh four-speed gearbox: and the fitting of locking push buttons to the swivelling quarter-lights in the front compartment as an added protection against theft. The Super Minx retains fully-reclining front seats, heating and ventilation system, a headlamp flasher, screen washers, child-proof locks on all four doors, builtin safety belt anchorages, dimmable warning lights, a lockable glove box, full length parcel shelves, and rear-door arm-rests.

The Hillman Super Minx estate car shares all the latest improvements. The Minx de luxe interior trim has been completely restyled and a new fascia design incorporates an instrument binnacle mounted directly in front of the driver containing speedometer, water temperature and fuel gauges. Other instruments can be added to the lower part of the binnacle and a combined screen washer/wiper control is now fitted. Screen washers, a headlamp flasher, a lockable cubby box, dimmable warning lights and twin sun visors continue to form part of the standard equipment.
