Laud And Playboy Best Otaki Workers
“The Press” Special Service OTAKI. Laud and Playboy were the best of the Marton candidates to work at Otaki yesterday. Galloping was done on the outside of the course proper, on the trial grass and on the sand. The going was fast. Laud started at the mile and a quarter and worked around to the five furlongs at an easy pace. Playboy and Knight’s Command covered half a mile in 50 3-ssec, the final three furlongs in 37 3-ssec. Playboy appeared to be doing the better at the finish. Playboy will resume after a winter spell in the Farewell Hack Handicap at Marton. He has done well since his break and he could race well fresh.
Knight’s Command is not engaged ths week, but he might race at the Otaki meeting. He ran from there in Imin ssec, the last half-mile taking 52sec and the final three furlongs in 39sec. He was going easily at the finish. Laud is n the Marton Handicap tomorrow and if he strikes a wet track, could be hard to beat. He likes the Marton course and his tendency to race in the lead suts him to it. Everglades, which gave an inglorious display over the brush hurdles at Wanganui, was impressive when covering half a mile with Throb in 51 3-ssec, the final three furlongs in 39sec. Everglades jumped four hurdles cleanly. He is entered for the hack hurdlei tomorrow
