WINDY POINT LOOK-OUT
Plane Table Erection
Work has begun on the erection of a plane table at Windy Point, Lyttelton. When completed the stainless steel table top will have engraved on it information of both historical and geographical interest. Lyttelton Harbour Board employees have begun erecting the base and pedestal of rough-hewn basaltic rock on the look-out platform. The cost is being shared by the board, the Lyttelton Round Table, the Rotary Club, and the Lyttelton Borough Council, which have combined for the project. Information for the table has been compiled by Mr B. N. Norris, secretary of the Canterbury Archaeological Society, with the assistance of the Canterbury regional committee of the National Historic Places Trust and the Canterbury Museum.
