CONTROL OF STRIKES
Congress To Take Charge (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) SYDNEY, Sept. 16. The Australian Council of Trade Unions’ Congress in Sydney today called for stricter control of strikes which invite contempt of aourt proceedings. The congress adopted by 293 votes to 245 an executive recommendation providing for this.
Congress policy will now provide that where a stoppage occurs and penal clauses are likely to be invoked, the congress will take charge and call a conference of the 'inions involved. The executive has been instructed to continue its campaign for the removal of the penal sections of the Arbitration Act and to co-ordinate its campaign with the Commonwealth Labour Advisory Committee.
