CONTRACTS LET
Township For Hydro Scheme (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 14. The 10th and 11th site development contracts at Turangi had been let, the Minister of Works (Mr Allen) said today. They went to Earthmovers (Waikato), Ltd., for £39,997 and to Taylor and Culley, Ltd., for £66,501.
Mr Allen said Turangi, the construction centre for the Tongariro hydro scheme, was growing at the rate of about 10 families a week and about 50 homes were now occupied. Mr Allen said the first two site development contracts had been completed, and satisfactory progress was being made on seven others. More than 200 house sections had been fully serviced, with seal, ed streets, concrete footpaths and underground electric reticulation of electricity.
