SMART TRIALS BY SECOND LEG RIVALS
The Press*’ Special Service DUNEDIN.
Golden Blossom and Warfare, rival candidates for the Telegraph Handicap, the second leg of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double : on Saturday, rounded off their ; preparations with smart trials ;at Wingatui yesterday. ' Ridden by her race-day I jockey R. J. Skelton, Golden Blossom ran a shade better than Imin ssec over five furlongs on the plough after running the first two furlongs in 25sec. She appeared to relish her task and pulled up well. Mr J. M. Samson’s Targui mare was a last start winner over nine furlongs on the middle day of the Grand National meeting. Since then she has been working with zest and is well conditioned to test the sprinters on Saturday.
| Over the same ground Warfare took a shade longer than Imin ssec and she looked as though she could have improved on her time. She had a lean period last season, being put aside after having two races early in the term. She started a fresh campaign at the Otago Hunt meeting and she should show the benefit of that outing. Raced by Mr W. D. McKenzie. of Southland, Warfare is ;a class sprinter when at her | best and she could be one of i the mainstays of D. P. Willson’s team this season.
